What are enzymes?

Enzymes are protein-based catalysts produced in the cells of living organisms. They take part in essential life-sustaining processes such as synthesis, breakdown, transport, excretion, detoxification, and energy storage. Our bodies naturally create over 5,000 types of enzymes, each with a specific and unique role. We also obtain enzymes from the foods we eat daily. The reason there are so many types is their single-purpose nature — every enzyme is designed for a particular function.

Digestive enzymes break down food — proteins, carbohydrates, and fats — into smaller building blocks that can be absorbed into the bloodstream. These nutrients are then used for energy production, cell structure building, and metabolic processes. Enzymes help reduce bloating, excessive stomach acid, and support faster, more efficient passage of food through the digestive system.
